Social Model

The social model is built on four basic pillars:




Mentors approaches to the students as individuals. Each student has a mentor: an adult who acts as their reference person. This person can be a teacher that the student has in some activities, or in any. Mentoring is a student-to-student relationship with your tutor in which personal, psychological, emotional and academic monitoring is done. Mentors try to be as objective as possible so they do not condition the student in any way.


The teaching team is in charge of assigning a mentor to the child depending on their characteristics and interests. However, children can change mentors during the course if they wish.


Judicial Committee


The Judicial Committee (JC) is a committee consisting of three students and one teacher. The main mission of this committee is to solve conflicts and works as follows:

  • Meets once a week.
  • Analyzes complaints.
  • Studies unresolved conflicts.


In addition, they are subject to a number of standards:

  • In the JC you can not lie.
  • If any member of the JC has been involved in a particular conflict, this member can not participate in its resolution.


The main purposes of the JC are:

  • Exposing the conflict.
  • That those involved in the conflict understand why it happened or what has bothered the others.
  • Avoiding a repetition so that action wont happen again.
  • Reparation of the potential damage.
  • Let both sides learn from the situation

The relationship between mentor and student is a not based on value judgments. For example, the child can tell the mentor that a standard has been skipped and the mentor will not make any value judgment, but will try to understand the reasons why this has happened.


The mentor, in addition, maintains the communication with the student family.


How does JC work?

The JC is part of the Community Work of the school. Students can choose to be part of it.


Each month students vote for those who are going to be part of the JC. The three most voted students are those who will eventually be part of it.


A good way to understand how the JC works is by explaining a real case:


Real case:


One girl wrote a complaint explaining that she had received notes with bad words from two classmates: a boy and a girl.


The boy and the girl go to the JC and admit their responsibility. The JC tries to find out the causes and the children confess that they had written these curses because they were bored.




A girl, JC´s member, thinks that the damage could be compensated if the children write a note with nice words to the girl who has been offended.

The JC determines that since these two children do not come up with nice words when they are bored, they will have to learn nice ones.


Another JC member thinks it would be a good idea for these two children to start reading poetry.


This is how a consequence is decided. This consequence has to be accepted by all parties involved: victim, guilty and all members of the JC.




According to the characteristics of each of the culprits, it is decided that each one has to read a different poetry book: the girl should read Bequer and the boy Gloria Fuertes.


After reading, both children had to comment on what they had read and write a poem to the child they had offended.


But the consequence doesn’t stop here. The girl, after reading Rimas and Leyendas de Bécquer, was absolutely enthusiastic and began to write poetry in English. Along with other child and a teacher, they organized a poetic jam in a nearby café. The poetic jam was so successful that The Dragon International School celebrates a poetic jam, once every two months in this café.

Implicit learning

When a conflict has not been solved at the time, both students and teachers can write their relevants complaints describing the conflict with the exact date and time of the incident.


All students, including the youngest, must follow this procedure if they want their conflict resolved. In this way, all students have to:

  • Write their complaints
  • Describe their best, thus promoting their ability to express themselves.


Students understand that literacy is necessary to resolve conflicts and achieve their goals. The development of the capacity for expression is overriding.


Children internalize that if they cannot express themselves correctly or cannot write, their conflicts will not be solved. This type of procedure encourages implicit learning. It could be said that the whole procedure is equivalent to one hour in language class.

Exceptional cases

The JC always functions privately among members of the JC, the victim and the guilty party.


There is only one case in which the trial is done at the public level: when there are signs of harassment or bullying.


These cases are exposed to the Parliament Meeting so that the whole school knows what is going on, who has done it and how it is happening. Thereby, this sort of actions and attitudes are repulsed publicly. The culprits or stalkers would not be anonymous, the rest of the school would know his name, unlike in other schools that try to hide it for fear of being made public and this would harm the image of the school.


At El Dragon International School we believe that bullying feeds on silence and fear, so we think that the best way to combat this behavior is to light up these situations and make them public. Our experience has shown that publicizing these cases, stops bullying.


In addition, shedding light on the situation, we trigger two types of consequences on the aggressor:


  • Fear of public judgment: the aggressor rises to the rejection of the whole community.
  • Self-evaluation and self-criticism: Many aggressors do not know what they do wrong until they do not put a spotlight on their actions. The external judgment makes them evaluate their own actions and ask themselves why they are being carried out.

Community Work


El Community Work es la forma que El Dragón International School tiene de evaluar todas las necesidades comunes. Cada alumno tiene una tarea.

Algunas de las actividades que el Community Work gestiona son:

  • Jardín
  • Cocina: pinche de cocina y ayudante de comedor.
  • JC
  • Parliament Commitee
  • Comité de visitas


Estas actividades cambian dependiendo de las necesidades de la escuela y forman parte de las horas activas de los alumnos y alumnas.


Las tareas van rotando de forma mensual y bimensual, de forma que todos los niños pasen por todas las tareas.


Esto no significa que no haya un equipo de limpieza, cocina, jardinería y mantenimiento en la escuela. Existe un equipo de limpieza y mantenimiento profesional que acude cada día a nuestras instalaciones para ayuda al correcto funcionamiento de las mismas.




El Parliament está formado por toda la comunidad educativa que son:

  • Estudiantes
  • Profesores
  • Staff no educativo


El Parliament gestiona todo lo común y no puede legislar sobre lo individual.



El Parliament se reúne una vez a la semana y, aunque la asistencia no es obligatoria, los alumnos suelen asistir, ya que si no van pierden información sobre lo que está pasando y no tienen derecho a votar en esa sesión. Cuando hay reunión de Parliament, no hay ninguna otra actividad en la escuela.


En las reuniones de Parliament se van creando, entre todos los participantes, las normas de convivencia y leyes que regulan el funcionamiento de la escuela. Todas estas normas se registran en el Lawbook o Libro de Leyes.

  • Propuestas – Buzón de Proposals: El parliament una vez a la semana trata todas las propuestas
  • Materiales
  • JC: a veces el Jc participa para recordar algunas normas


Todo menos derechos humanos y los pilares básicos de la escuela.

La mayoría nunca puede ir contra los derechos humanos de la minoría. Se intenta llegar a un consenso en el que todas las partes queden satisfechas.


Casos excepcionales


Por norma general, los padres y familias de los niños no pueden participar en las decisiones que se toman en el Parliament excepto en algunos casos concretos en los que las decisiones que se tomen puedan interferir directamente en la filosofía o línea educativa de la familia.
